On March 5th, the Georgetown Global Cities Initiative hosted its Third Annual Student Research Summit where students from across University came together to present their urban and place-based research. Undergraduate and graduate students participated and all schools at Georgetown were represented by presenters, professors, and attendees.
Following opening remarks from Uwe Brandes, selected students offered presentations organized in four panels and a lightning round, including: Covid-19 and Cities; Cities and Public Health; Forces of Change in Global Urbanization; Social Equity Across DC’s Metropolitan Landscape; and the Digital Disruption of the City. Student presentations showcased an impressive array of cities, including: Singapore, Soweto, Addis Ababa, New York, Los Angeles, Doha, and Washington D.C.
Visiting Fellow Angela Glover Blackwell served as lead respondent to each presentation, and she was joined by Georgetown Faculty Members John Monahan, Bernhard Liese, Sheila Foster, and Katie J. Wells. The Annual Student Research Summit seeks to champion, elevate and advance student-driven urban research across the entire University and build a multi-disciplinary supportive network by doing so.
