On February 16, 2021, the Georgetown Global Cities Initiative, the Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy, and GU Politics will virtually host US Mayors and policy experts to discuss the comprehensive social and economic impacts of COVID-19 and their effects on urban economies and governance structures.
The comprehensive social and economic impacts of COVID-19 have called urban economies and governance structures into question. With social inequities laid bare, health networks in need of repositioning, and central business districts and mass transit systems utilized at only a fraction of their capacity, Mayors face dire realities of slashed city budgets and strained relationships with public and private partners.
As cities search for new ways to build trust through local health systems, overcome depleted budgets and restore jobs, how might this moment in time represent an unprecedented opportunity for Mayors to advance civic innovation and overcome institutionalized legacies of exclusion?
Speakers:
The Honorable William Peduto, Mayor, City of Pittsburgh
Moderator:
Sheila Foster, Scott K. Ginsburg Professor of Urban Law and Policy, Georgetown University
