Mya graduated cum laude from Skidmore College in 2024 with a B.A. in Environmental Science and minors in Sociology and the Periclean Honors Forum. In 2025, she will graduate from Georgetown University with her M.S. in Environment and Sustainability Management. Passionate about invasive species, ecological management, and socioenvironmental projects, Mya was a 2024-2025 Alternate for Fulbright Research Award in Greece.

In 2023, Mya interned with the Lake George Land Conservancy, where she developed an invasive species management plan for a 60-acre conservation property. Before her internship, Mya researched terrestrial invasive species and forests in upstate, NY, for two summers and studied nocturnal Octopus briareus during her semester in the Turks and Caicos Islands. For her senior capstone at Skidmore, Mya researched the environmental, economic, and social impacts of the invasive elongate hemlock scale in the Lake George watershed.

Mya also represented Women in Ocean Science at Skidmore and contributed to campus outreach through her role at the Skidmore Sustainability Office. Mya is passionate about ocean conservation and was certified as a PADI Divemaster in 2022. At Skidmore, she coxed for the men’s rowing team and is completing her final year of NCAA eligibility with the Georgetown men’s lightweight rowing team. Mya is excited to have been selected for the GGCI Scholars Program and would like to thank Uwe for his support.
