Darsey Trudo
As a senior at Georgetown University studying Anthropology and Environmental Studies with a focus on interdisciplinary urban design, environmental justice, and gentrification mitigation, I have cultivated a deep passion for understanding the complexities of urban ecologies and the cultural narratives embedded within them. My recent semester abroad in Copenhagen sparked an insatiable curiosity about urbanism and livability, prompting a commitment to explore how Nordic design
principles can intersect with the unique histories of American cities.
Currently pursuing a research project centered on the neighborhoods of Navy Yard and Buzzard Point in Southwest D.C., I aim to investigate the implications of environmental remediation on gentrification and community displacement. Through a blend of historical analysis, GIS mapping, and community engagement, the project seeks to highlight the impact of environmental hazards on marginalized populations and propose equitable urban planning solutions. With a strong foundation in Anthropology and Environmental Studies, I am motivated to advocate for a reflexive approach to urban design that prioritizes community voices and fosters sustainable development. Ultimately, I aspire to pursue a graduate degree in sustainable urban planning, contributing to meaningful change in urban environments.
