The Georgetown Global Cities Initiative has named Prof. Philip Sheldrake of Cambridge University as its inaugural visiting fellow. Sheldrake is author of The Spiritual City: Theology, Spirituality and the Urban (Wiley Blackwell, 2014) which explores the historical meaning and importance of cities and invites readers to rethink the idea of contemporary urban life. He is Senior Research Fellow at Westcott House and the Cambridge Theological Federation and Senior Research Associate of the Von Hugel Institute at St Edmund’s College Cambridge among numerous academic appointments.
In-residence at Georgetown twice during the 2018-19 academic year, Prof. Sheldrake will work with faculty, staff and students on the advancement of the initiative. “I am delighted that Prof. Sheldrake will be affiliated with the initiative this year,” said Faculty Director Uwe Brandes, “I can think of no scholar whose work is in better alignment with the idea of exploring the interdisciplinary themes of cities at Georgetown.”
Prof. Sheldrake’s first week in residence begins on November 5, 2018. Please see the events page to find an opportunity to meet him.
