Call for Applications: 2025-2026 GGCI Scholars Program
Overview
The Georgetown Global Cities Initiative (GGCI) is an academic community dedicated to creating and sharing interdisciplinary knowledge of cities, their communities, places, and the opportunities associated with unprecedented global urbanization. The Georgetown Global Cities Scholars Program supports students in the advancement of their own ideas, projects, and research. Program activities build student networks, elevate and highlight student work, and explore professional development.
Mission
The Scholars Program aims to create a community of practice of budding urban scholars and researchers at Georgetown University, promoting interdisciplinary, geographically diverse, and impactful knowledge generation on global urbanization. Its main objectives are to provide research and project support for students, generate professional, academic, and social networks, connect scholars with professionals in their desired fields, and help scholars advance their career goals.
Activities include:
- Dinners with guest speakers
- Visits to planning and urbanism organizations, government entities, and companies around DC
- Research mentoring
- Participation in special GGCI events, workshops, and seminars
- Other social, academic, and professional activities.
Last year's cohort of Scholars met with urbanists at the World Bank and the World Resources Institute, explored development in Tyson's Corner and Anacostia, travelled to Philadelphia and Cairo, and more. Scholars may be offered the possibility to support faculty members in GGCI-sponsored research projects as RAs.
Schedule
The year-long program starts in September 2025 and ends in May 2026 with dedicated convenings throughout the year. The first meeting will be on September 26, 2025. Scholars are encouraged to present their research at the Georgetown Global Cities Initiative Student Research Summit, hosted every spring.
