John R. McNeill

University Professor

Translated into 13 languages, John McNeill’s books explore global, Caribbean and Mediterranean environmental history. In Something New Under the Sun: An Environmental History of the Twentieth-Century World, he argued that human activity during the 20th century led to environmental change on an unprecedented scale.  In The Great Acceleration, co-authored with Peter Engelke, he highlighted the environmental consequences of rapid urbanization on a global scale since 1945.
