Urban Health in Ghana: Exploring the Trends and Evidence
Speaker: John Gyapong, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana
John Gyapong is a public health physician and epidemiologist with over thirty years of experience in health research and infectious diseases. He is currently a Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ghana. Prior to this he served as Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research Innovation and Development and Professor in Epidemiology and Disease Control at the University of Ghana. He is also an Adjunct Professor of International Health at Georgetown University.
Dr. Gyapong practiced for over twenty years as a physician in the Ghanaian health system, rising to become the Director of Research and Development of the Ghana Health Service and establishing the Ghana Neglected Diseases Control Programme. His areas of research focus are infectious disease epidemiology and health systems research through which he is extensively published and provides ongoing contribution to global health dialogue.
Dr. Gyapong received his Ph.D. in Epidemiology and his Master of Science in Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK). He received his medical education from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana.
About the Urban Health Collaborative (UHC)
Launched in 2017, the UHC aims to champion urban health research & development in cities around the world and the Washington, DC area. The Collaborative is housed in the Department of International Health (School of Nursing & Health Studies).
