The Earth Commons, in collaboration with the Hip Hop Caucus and The Undivide Project, invites you to a special screening of Underwater Projects, a powerful documentary directed by Liz Havstad and narrated by Wanda Sykes.
The film examines the sinking of Norfolk, Virginia—home to the world’s largest naval base—and the climate justice challenges faced by the city’s historic African American community. Through a blend of animation and live action, Underwater Projects highlights the resilience of local leaders as they develop strategies to combat rising waters.
The evening will begin with a reception at 5:00 PM, followed by the screening and a panel discussion featuring:
Deirdre “Moma D” Love – Founder, Teens with a Purpose
Andria McClellan – Former Councilwoman, Norfolk City Council
JaRel Clay – Associate Senior Director of Digital & Production, Hip Hop Caucus
Dr. Randall Amster – Teaching Professor and Director, Environmental Studies Program (Moderator)
Prof. Monica Sanders, JD, LL.M. – Founder, The Undivide Project (Moderator)
