Science is about facts, and scientific fact is at the center of climatologist Dr. Ben Santer’s research on global warming. The esteemed scientist will be joined by global health expert Dr. Hernando Garzon of Kaiser Permanente and Milwaukee-based filmmaker Chip Duncan for a presentation and discussion about global climate change modeling and the community-based health consequences facing a warming world.

Using personal stories, long-term study and decades of documentation and community engagement, Santer, Duncan and Garzon have teamed up to bring their personal stories of the study of climate change to audiences across the U.S.  Together, they are the Three Tenors of Climate Change.

Duncan begins the evening with a presentation of his photographic documentation of North America’s iciest landscapes going back to 1991.  Santer then presents the science of a warming climate through the latest computer modeling and satellite imagery accented by personal insights that begin with his role as co-author of the 1995 report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). This 1995 report reached the historic conclusion that “the balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on global climate.”

One of the world’s leading experts on global disaster response, Garzon weaves a personal story that begins with his work navigating crises like 9/11 in New York City, the Haitian earthquake in Port-au-Prince, and West Africa’s Ebola crisis, while addressing a noticeable shift to climate-related disasters such as Puerto Rico, New Orleans, and the Ayerwaddy Delta region of Burma.
