The Politics of Placemaking and Black Futures Across the African Diaspora

Architect and Professor of Architecture at Howard University, Dahlia Nduom, will be presenting her research on the legacy of tourism, colonialism and architectural narratives in Jamaica as addressed in her exhibit at the Octagon titled “Tourism, Tropicalization, and the Architectural Image.” Georgetown Associate Professor in the African Studies Program, Titilola Halimat Somotan, will be sharing work from her manuscript titled, “Challenging Slum Narratives: Place-Making and Spatial Transformations in Central Lagos Before Urban Renewal, ca. 19th Century to 1920s.”
