Place for Lunch

Note: Please RSVP and a Zoom webinar link will be sent to you in advance of the event.

"Place for Lunch" is a periodic convening of the Georgetown Place Leadership Project, a community participatory research project which explores the emerging practices of "place management" across the National Capital Region.

On Tuesday June 9, the next Place for Lunch dialogue exploring the significance of place management organizations (PMOs) in the National Capital Region. The purpose of these open virtual lunch dialogues is to periodically convene for an hour of insight, discussion, and exchange of ideas which enable a better understanding of how place-based management practices are advancing integrated urban outcomes. These dialogues are recorded and made available for people unable to join us for the live session. Our next dialogue will explore the following question:

What strategic role are place management organizations playing during the Covid-19 public health crisis to retain small businesses and active ground-floor retail uses in their districts?

Our dialogue will explore the role that non-profit place management organizations are playing to support the retention of commercial retail uses in their urban districts during the reopen and recovery process.  We will use the example of the North Capitol Main Street as a point of departure to explore the interdependencies of small business tenants, landlords and mortgage lenders in preservation of neighborhood identity and value.  What value do place management organizations add?

Thought leaders will feature:

Aisha Bond, Executive Director, North Capitol Main Street

Tom Nida, Executive Vice President, City First Bank

Adam Weers, Principal, Trammell Crow Company

Moderated by:

Uwe Brandes, Faculty Director, Georgetown Urban & Regional Planning Program
