Booming Cities: How Local-Driven Trade Policy is Growing Local Economies

From Greenville to Pittsburgh and from Houston to Grand Rapids, cities are embracing the global economy to grow their local economies, and their successes challenge the conventional wisdom that globalization is a threat. Along with good policy, education, and philanthropy, city leaders are embracing their role in the global economy and it’s making a big difference. This event hosted by the Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy and Listening for America will feature a discussion with Cathy Novelli and local leaders on leveraging globalization to diversify their local economies, support American businesses, and help bring good, quality jobs to their cities.

Featuring:
Catherine Novelli President of Listening for America; Former Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment; Former Assistant U.S. Trade Representative; and Adjunct Professor in the Landegger Program at Georgetown University

Birgit M. Klohs, Chair of the New Community Transformation Fund; Former President & CEO of The Right Place, Inc. in Grand Rapids, Michigan

John Austin, Director, Michigan Economic Center; Nonresident Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution & Chicago Council of Global Affairs

Rodney Ludema (moderator), Professor and Director, Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy
