Hon. Francis X. Suarez, former president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, former two-term Mayor and City Commissioner of Miami, Florida, will be in residence at Georgetown University the fall.  Hosted by the Institute of Politics, he will engage students in four in-person dialogues at the Capitol Campus. The Georgetown Global Cities Initiative (GCI), a network of university faculty and students who share ideas and research on global urbanization, explores what the United Nations describes as “one of the most important global trends in the 21st Century.”

This summer, a cohort of Georgetown University graduate students traveled to Jakarta for an intensive 5-week residency as part of an applied urban planning practicum. The United Nations has designated Jakarta as the world’s largest city, with over 40 million people living in a single metropolitan area. In collaboration with Georgetown’s GSAP campus in Jakarta, students advanced field research in coastal neighborhoods facing a myriad of challenges.
