Hon. Francis X. Suarez in Residence this Fall
Hon. Francis X. Suarez, former president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, former two-term Mayor and City Commissioner of Miami, Florida, will be in residence at Georgetown University the fall. Hosted by the Institute of Politics, he will engage students in four in-person dialogues at the Capitol Campus. Suarez’s discussion group is themed: “How Can I Help? A Guide to Public Service Beyond D.C. and Navigating What’s Next”. All sessions will be held at the McCourt School at 125 E Street NW are scheduled on Thursdays at 5 pm. People & Place in North Jakarta
This summer, a cohort of Georgetown University graduate students traveled to Jakarta for an intensive 5-week residency as part of an applied urban planning practicum. The United Nations has designated Jakarta as the world’s largest city, with over 40 million people living in a single metropolitan area. In collaboration with Georgetown’s GSAP campus in Jakarta, students advanced field research in coastal neighborhoods facing a myriad of challenges. Neighborhood-based fieldwork required students master key methods of urban documentation, spatial research, and effective communication essential to professional planning practice.
