Overview
The Scholars Program is a dedicated learning community for emerging urban scholars at Georgetown University, promoting interdisciplinary research on global urbanization. Program activities build student networks across schools, programs, and disciplines. Activities elevate and highlight student work and provide an intellectual context for exploring professional development pathways. Admission to the Scholars Program is competitive.

Activities
- Regular group meetings in the fall and spring semesters;
- Discourse with special guests;
- Site visits to urban research and planning organizations in Washington, D.C.;
- Research mentoring;
- Participation in GGCI events, workshops, and seminars.
Recent cohorts have met with urban specialists at the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, World Resources Institute, D.C. Office of Planning, and many other organizations. Site visits have included travel to Philadelphia, Cairo, and locations across metropolitan Washington.
Schedule
The year-long program starts in September 2026 and ends in May 2027 with dedicated convenings throughout the year. All scholars are encouraged to present their research at the GGCI Student Research Summit, hosted every February.
Apply
All students in all schools and all programs are encouraged to apply. Applicants submit a personal statement and a working proposal for research they will concentrate on. Research projects can relate directly to class assignments, external engagements, or thesis/dissertation projects. Applications are due on September 13th, 2025, at 11:59 pm.
